The entire Affordable Dentures network grieves for the family and friends of dental student Deah Barakat, his wife Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha and wife’s sister Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, the three victims tragically killed during an incident last week in Chapel Hill, N.C. Deah was a second-year dental student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, while Yusor was admitted to the incoming Class of 2019; her sister Razan was a sophomore at N.C. State University.
By all accounts, Deah and Yusor displayed the kindness and passion for patient care and philanthropy we admire in great dentists. The newlyweds selflessly donated their time and dental expertise to a variety of charitable causes. Deah led fundraising efforts to deliver dental care to children in Syria affected by civil war. Yusor shared our passion for participation in local Missions of Mercy events, providing free dental care to those who need it most. The loss of these three outstanding members of our community is immeasurable and truly heartbreaking.
Affordable Care, Inc. today is announcing two $2,500 pledged donations to North Carolina-based dental clinics in Deah, Yusor and Razan’s names. The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service and Dr. Keith Taylor will use the funds toward establishing a new two-tier dental clinic in Carrboro. The Kinston Community Health Center Dental Clinic will continue in its mission to provide preventative and restorative dental care to North Carolinians in eight counties who need it most.
We encourage you to personally contribute to these causes, to participate in the “Our Three Winners” memorial community on Facebook, and to live like Deah, Yusor and Razan did – committed to healing and making our community great.
Doug Brown
President and CEO, Affordable Care, Inc.
